UK's Department of English launches its new MFA and welcomes new fiction faculty.
Last week, 15 UK faculty taught students at Shanghai University in China through the UK Confucius Institute’s “UK Faculty China Short-Term Teaching Program.”
The student co-presidents of the Graphite Creative Writing Association were brought together by the group’s faculty advisor, English associate professor Julia Johnson. The young student organization will work to do for the other creative writers on the University of Kentucky’s campus what the club has already done for them—create a stronger sense of fellowship and community.
There is word on the page and then there is word given breath. This past April, students and faculty from the University of Kentucky brought words to life thanks to a 12-hour open air poetry reading. The event, organized by English professor and published author Julia Johnson, was held outside of the Student Center welcoming anyone and everyone to come read their favorite poems aloud.
Award-winning poet and associate professor of English Julia Johnson will present workshops, readings and a craft talk at the 2012 Kentucky Women Writers Conference.
At the beginning of the Fall 2011 semester, we met with all of the new faculty hires in the College of Arts and Sciences. This series of podcasts introduces them and their research interests. Julia Johnson is an associate professor in the Department of English. Johnson focuses on poetry, as a subject of study as well as a personal pursuit. Her latest volume of poems will be published in the fall.
