Queer and Now - "TransParent"
Shelley "Treasure" Hilliard, a 19-year-old girl from Detroit, beloved by her family and friends, is murdered in a hate crime that was not prosecuted as such. TransParent is about the struggle to forgive, misrepresented communities and perspectives, and a grieving mother's commitment to her daughter, Treasure.
This film will be our most interactive in nature. Dream Hampton, the director of this documentary, will be speaking at this movie. Activists will be holding a workshop before the movie and kids from the documentary will be present for a Q&A afterwards. After these events, a reception will be held at the MLK center.
